When a bike sits in traffic, it will overheat. My question is if it overheats , do you shut it off and start it back up when traffic moves or do you signal the cars around you and pull it over to the shoulder/ emergency lane?
I would think that shutting it off will hurt the motor and make it temporarily get hotter, as the coolant isnt circulating. Then again the shoulder doesnt sound like a safe choice either the way houston cagers/jerks tend to drive on the shoulder in traffic too.:eh: just wondering if anybody here has that experience under their belt??

it might be your fan, mine starts getting hot while i sit, but i always try to keep moving. if it starts getting too hot , then i turn it off while i sit, then start it p and go, and then turn it off when i sit.

Check your flux capacitor. It's probably not fluxing properly.

Cousin had an old Honda Interceptor that got hot in traffic, was cured with a manually operated toggle switch to cut the fan on earlier... worked.

At about 230 degrees my F4i fan comes on and shuts off at 220... when the coolant fan fuse popped it was around 240'ish with a blinking engine light and coolant overflow. Solution was keep the revs down and bypass traffic doing maybe 15mph, bypassing an HPD truck in the process but they didn't want to throw down...

I don't stop for traffic I just cruise through at like 10-20mph. Never had my bikes overheat but I never let them sit that long becuase I don't want them getting that hot. On another note my 900RR hit 235* one day going down the freeway and my motor did not blow a gasket so I know bike engines can handle alot of heat. Oh and the 03 ninjas did not come with the flux capacitor they started that in 05.

check out your rotating splint as well... some times the bearings wear down, and cause excessive friction. also, the coolant vaporizor on the ninjas is junk

change out your power band too, that will help some

Mine gets hot but does not over heat. I have seen people wire the fan on a switch so they can let it run constantly.

Ok... all of you missed the point. This is the safety forum... I was asking from a safety standpoint, would you be better off hitting the shoulder and shutting it down OR taking it through the traffic (lane splitting) till you could pull off the freeway.. Personally, I wouldnt want to sit on the shoulder with the bike off and let some fool cager hit me trying to take a short-cut on the emergency lane. Plus I havent been in traffic enough to let my bike overheat. I only ride during non-peak traffic hours.
