No, I never took MSF soooooooooo....
I've heard ppl mention practice your figure 8's. My question is, what dimensions should it be?

i really would NOT recommend practicing. you might pick up some bad habits, and if it;s on the F4i. i can almost guarantee you won't make it, and might even drop the bike.......not worth it.
where when are you taking the class.
Don't they do that in the courses? Oh. If I took MSF, then I can practice what I learned. That's what you mean?

yes, it is done in the course.
instead of telling you how to do it, just take the course. we spend about 7-8 min. talking and demonstrating the ex. then 20+more min. "critiquing" you.......
how much will you get out of an i-net post?

I got ya. I wasn't expecting to get the full skinny on it, just wanted to know what was practiced. I'm sure if I went head first and tried it at the practiced dimensions, I'd spill.

k, i'll get the dimensions when i get home.....
key things, USE THE CLUTCH, Turn your head, look where you wanna go, counterweight.
but really look into the class.......it could save your life.

start with a bigger 8 . gradually decrease the size. ask RacerX about dimensions though...

I had to keep myself from doing the figure 8's without any hands when i took msf those nighthawk 250's are fun to mess around on

If I remember correctly it was about 22' x 22'. Something like that. Pretty easy on the CB125 but harder on the CBR600.

i took the Dirtbike to the San Jac campus i took my MSF at and did the box all day long.........it helps that its a mini ...here's out own re4sident "prodigy" wheelying the mini

28'x70' for the "experienced" course, 20'x60' for the beginner course.
i'm gonna warn you though, it's gonna be hard and chances are high, you'll drop the bike.
i really really wish you just took the class, that 1 drop will cost more then the class.
do you have your license? or permit?

that thing is easy.. took my ass like 10 or more trys to get it right
The practical part of MSF is completely useless in my opinion unless you plan on riding in parking lots or have never operated a clutch before. The classroom is slightly different-they will mention things like lane position, oil and coolant on the ground, stuff you need to survive on the street. For pure riding though, a trackday will teach you way more about your motorcycle and its handling than anything at MSF.
Forget your figure 8's have you ever needed them? Its not like you are training a horse-its a goddamn machine.

how much do you use your clutch? how about "looking where you wanna go"......you take out of the class what you want to. as much or as little.
and while i agree w/ the trackday to a certain degree, thats not the place to learn to ride.

See in all honesty ed and i totally agree with you on most everything about the msf but for ME my dad (i know yall dont like it when your parents teach you stuff) tought me everything i needed to know...He tought me the rules of the road and what to whatch out for how to operate the machine how to avoid accidents and all types of senarios he tought me more then i could really use...not only that when i had my 1rst street bike a cb100 witch was a few years b4 i had goten the 750 he went over all kinds of things with me on diffrent ridng posters and what nots....
Plus i had years and years of riding and racing under my belt w/ dirtbikes and other 2 and 4 wheel things..
I know this is off topic but i have been thinking over some things and i think i was in the ok as far as not taking the msf. but i was kinnda wondering what you thought ed.... I meen yes it couldnt hurt to take it but what did you think about it...
Also never start on a ss bike esp if your into racing lol bad stuff happens!!!

ed why is the experienced course figure 8 bigger then the begginer?
is it because you're typically on a larger bike?

and your dad prolly did a decent job. but it can't hurt to have regimented training routine vs oh yeah, this, and then that........vs a structured lesson plan based on years and years of evolving and improving the course.
and not to say your dad is wrong, but i have many older riders who were taught the "wrong way" so he'd teach you the wrong way, and carry on that misinformation.
is the MSF and end all to learning, NO. it is a great start though.
your dad may have taught you well, but many of my students came into class taught by friends/family and they were taught the wrong way to do things. common is more rear brake then ft. luckily they came to class learned the right way, and didn't end up broadsided into a car cuz they slammed on their rear brake. another common misnomer is braking in a corner.

Hmm yea thats about what i figured i may take the experianced cource soon just to have it under my belt...I dont know how much good the reg class would do me anymore...

well do you have a license? can't take the advanced w/o having a license. not permit but a license.
if you have a license, i say save the advanced to get a ticket dismiseed (like def. driving) do a trackday.

Why am I barely askin about 8's? Cuz I just got my sliders installed. NO FEAR!!!!! j/k Naw, I figured since I don't ride much, whenever I take it out for a quick spin I can do something productive. I want to take the MSF, but I just have to make time for it, but I must not want it that bad, cuz I haven't made time for it yet :keke:
